Study in Hungary had a visit to Korea

Study in Hungary visited Seoul and participated at the Study in Europe Fair (2-3 November 2019) that was part of the 49th Korea Study Abroad Fair, the biggest study abroad fair in Korea. The two-day fair – that took place in the famous COEX Center – was a great opportunity to help students better understand and explore the wide range of higher educational opportunities in Hungary. The colleagues of Tempus Public Foundation attended the fair together with the representatives of ten Hungarian higher education institutions who provided detailed information about their study programmes offered for international students and the entrance requirements. At the booth of  Tempus Public Foundation and the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference, we had a discussion with many students who were interested in the Hungarian higher education in general. The visitors also had a chance to get detailed information about the scholarship opportunities, especially the Stipendium Hungaricum programme and our three alumni student helpers shared a first-hand experience with the attendants about everyday life and study in Hungary.

During our visit, Study in Hungary had the opportunity to organize the II. Korean-Hungarian Higher Education Forum that took place at the InterContinental Seoul COEX on 4th November. The event was organised for the second time based on the success of the first forum held in Autumn 2018. The aim was to support inter-institutional partnership-building, deepen the existing cooperation with the partner organizations and to share the best practices of long-term cooperation. Apart from the Hungarian delegation of 15 people, more than 30 guest attended the event from various well-known Korean universities. The programme started with the opening speech of the Ambassador of Hungary to the Republic of Korea, it was followed by the presentation of Tempus Public Foundation and the National Institute for International Education (NIIED) about mobility statistics and scholarship opportunities and then a panel discussion and a workshop took place to explore the best practices of the long-term academic partnerships between Hungarian and Korean universities. Following the networking lunch, the event closed with a ‘market place’ networking session where the universities could have one-on-one negotiations.

The Tempus Public Foundation attended The Irish Times Higher Options study fair in Dublin with a joint “Study in Hungary” stand on 12-14 September, 2018.

In addition to the Tempus Public Foundation presence at the Study in Hungary boot, two Hungarian higher education institutions were represented: the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and the University of Pécs.

Based on the preliminary information from the Embassy in Dublin, there has been a growing interest among Irish students in higher education towards studying in Hungary, mainly in veterinary and medical fields. Therefore, it was not surprising that the Hungarian stand was very popular among Irish high school students: we provided information to more than a hundred inquirers a day. The most attracted areas were indeed medicine and veterinary study programmes, but the topic of partial and full-time scholarships possibilities was also popular. In addition, students were also interested in the fields of psychology and social sciences, health sciences, natural sciences, music, law, and economics. Since the main target group of the event was Irish secondary school students, mainly bachelor level education was in the centre of interest.
