INFORMATION FOR PARTNERS

about Tempus Public Foundation, the Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship and the Hungarian higher education

Tempus Public Foundation (TPF) is a non-profit organisation established in 1996 by the Hungarian Government. We manage international scholarship, grant and cooperation programmes on a national level and coordinate special projects in the field of education, training, youth, and issues related to the European Union (EU). TPF is also involved in the development and implementation of training courses, and it provides expert assistance to the Hungarian education, training, and youth sector. In 2021, TPF celebrated its 25th anniversary. The knowledge and experience accumulated during this time provide a solid basis for TPF to continue its work with even greater vigour and ambition, but with the same goals.

The number of programmes coordinated by the organisation is constantly growing, and through these programmes, TPF has been managing the highest level of mobility in Hungary for years. Regarding the field of higher education, our main aim is to support the modernisation and the quality improvement of education, to encourage international cooperation and mobility. Besides the management and monitoring of scholarship programmes, we support the internationalisation of the Hungarian higher education through various activities such as providing consultancy services and training courses for the institutions, conducting research and preparing publications, organising conferences, taking part in international projects with other national offices, acting as a knowledge centre and serving as a bridge between policymakers and institutions.

We also aim to enhance the international visibility of the Hungarian higher education and its opportunities. We manage the Study in Hungary brand, coordinate the Alumni Network Hungary and support the student recruitment and partnership building activities of the Hungarian higher education institutions (e.g., Hungarian delegations to student recruitments fairs, partnership-building exhibitions and conferences abroad). We work in close cooperation with the Hungarian Diplomatic Representations abroad.

TPF coordinates and promotes both national scholarship programmes with an international scope (e.g., the Stipendium Hungaricum programme) and implements international mobility programmes (such as EU programmes e.g., the Erasmus+ programme) on a national level. The scope of the programmes covers both the inbound and the outbound mobility of students, trainees, researchers as well as teaching and administrative staff of higher education institutions.

TPF also manages the Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship Programme that was established by the Hungarian Government, and it is supervised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The Programme is for those who live in a Hungarian diaspora and wish to study at a Hungarian higher education institution to develop deeper personal, professional, and cultural ties to Hungary. 30 Hungarian institutions are involved in the Programme with nearly 1500 Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral study programmes, mostly in English and Hungarian language, both in full degree and partial/exchange study modes.
